Threshold — Entering the Subconscious Realm
This sculpture marks the threshold between the material world of reason and the subconscious realm of intuition, emotion, and unseen forces. In the journey of the Major Arcana, it occupies the second stage — where structure and identity give way to inner exploration and transformation.
Her posture embodies equilibrium, showing that true balance arises only when we engage with the subconscious. Alchemical symbols of fire and water on the fabric of her arms reflect this integration: fire, like the mind, illuminates, drives action, and structures perception; water, like the heart, flows, nurtures, and dissolves boundaries. Together, they form the alchemical union of opposites, echoing Jung’s vision that individuation requires harmonizing intellect and emotion, conscious thought and unconscious feeling.
Her wings, trapped within the soil, hint at latent potential. Once we master our inner selves, we gain the power to soar — insight, freedom, and angelic-like abilities — yet these remain dormant until equilibrium is achieved. The angel-like figure signals that we have entered the realm of imagination, where anything is possible, whether wondrous or shadowed, and where the mind can create, dream, and confront both light and dark possibilities.
The subconscious is no void, but a living landscape of emotions and memories, a labyrinth of echoes. Every fragment becomes guide and obstacle, mirror and gatekeeper. The gate before her, monstrous and alive, demands courage, confrontation, and revelation. The mud anchoring her wings and forms reminds us that liberation is forged in the depths we fear to enter — that descent precedes ascent.
The sword, divider and unifier, severs illusions separating reason from intuition, enabling mind and heart to coexist in harmony. In this alchemical act, the self discovers wholeness: an integration of shadow and radiance, intellect and instinct, memory and emotion, into a luminous awareness.
Flowing tendrils, coiled forms, and earthen textures pulse with life’s eternal rhythm: growth, decay, and renewal. The sculpture is both portal and mirror, inviting inward gaze, confrontation with the hidden currents of the soul, and recognition that true transformation begins within.
This is more than a sculpture.
It is a journey — into mystery, magic, and the sacred depths of the self. A call to witness, to feel, to remember, and ultimately, to transform. Beneath every statue lies a labyrinth, the hidden symbol of our inner journey — the secret path belonging only to each soul who dares to walk it.
